Entry for September 10, 2008

So, every time I write a blog, I always say I'm going to keep up with it from now on. Why change now? I'm going to keep up with this from now on.

So about Cainan and Asher...

Cainan started his second year of preschool last week. He was so excited to be back in school! He loves it so much and he was ecstatic to see his teachers again. Just as exciting is the news that his younger brother, Asher, gets to go with him this year. I had no idea that the preschool he attends through the Child Development Center allowed "regular" kids--I thought it was only for those special needs kids getting services. I found out a week before school started that they will accept community children for a small fee. I immediately signed Asher up and now the two of them are going to school together. It's so exciting!!

To back track a little...we had a wonderful summer. It went by pretty fast but the boys enjoyed the nice weather and playing outside. We got to go camping at the beach with our church in July and, once again, it was a huge hit! They love playing in the sand and Cainan just adores all the people he gets to socialize with. He loves meeting and greeting! They got to sleep in a tent this time (instead of the borrowed trailer we used last year) but there were no problems with that (see the picture above). One of the great highlights was trying s'mores for the first time. It was a hit with both boys immediately.

We are looking forward to the school year and a family vacation in November. The boys are super excited about going to Disneyland for a few days. They can't wait to see Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck. Cainan is a such daredevil when it comes to rides and he loves all the wild ones. He may actually be tall enough this time to ride some of the bigger ones. Speaking of which...

Cainan is still on growth hormone and has really sprouted up this summer. His teachers couldn't believe how much taller he is but still the same size around. I think he might actually be right on for proportion now (hieght/weight). He will see his endo next week. She's always so excited to see how well he is doing.

We had another sleep study in July, the first one since he had his tonsils out in December. It was almost exactly the same as the one prior to his tonselectomy. He still had three minor episodes of apnea, so they are obviously not obstructive as he has nothing left in his throat to obstruct the airway. The doctor said they were minor enough not to be too worried and we will continue with yearly sleep studies unless we notice his apnea worsening. He believes it could be reflux related and suggested we might try some reflux medication to see if that helps. I'm not exactly sure how we're supposed to know if it's worsening unless we're right next to him while he sleeps. He's never really snored, he just stops breathing and then wakes up, rustles around, and starts breathing again. Unless you're right next to him monitoring his breathes, you wouldn't notice it! The study certainly didn't put my mind to rest...

For now, that's all. I will try not to run on and on and on since I plan on keeping this up much better .

Here are pictures from camping.
